no pics for today, i just figured i’d give ya a quick update on progress. a couple days ago, i acquired nanotrax.com which should be resolving to the site within the next 7-10 days. GoDaddy is dragging their ass in releasing the domain to my registrar so that’s irritating, but i’m glad to have that little issue resolved before it became a big issue. behind the scenes, i’m feverishly working on the marketing plan for the shop, as there are many avenues to follow in order to effectively create awareness about our existence & get people interested in products & services we’ll offer. on top of that, internal planning for employees, signage & product display are additional issues i’m contemplating. i also developed a few new track layouts some of which include bridges. i finally received the new material for the track we’ll have on the 2nd floor, but we won’t start construction until we’re comfortably in the building & the showroom is complete.
i have yet to receive any parts, new models, bodies or body fitting kits for the dNano inventory & that’s a bit disappointing but i’ve been told i should get my hands on something maybe early next week. the idea isn’t that i NEED the parts right now, but i understand with availability at its current level, i need to stock for the future. it doesn’t help to sell a product one can’t support & i don’t mind making the investment to be able to take care of our customers. i should have the Kyosho catalog in this week as well and i’m looking forward to stocking Mini-Z models, Auto Scale Collection & parts which will be a less costly alternative to the dNano collection. i want customers to feel comfortable that we’ll fully support BOTH models & will race both equally as often. as far as my collection? the Mazda 787b is out of commission cuz my original wheels are now warped due to multiple hard crashes. i don’t have rear wheels (20mm), rear tires or front wheels in matching colors. additionally, i found one should never use super glue or acetone on anything so small – just take my word for it. lastly, i discovered wheel sizes of a dNano are not interchangeable as their ride height & handling are directly affected by this. that should be common sense with something so tiny but in my haste to get back into action, i was willing to try anything. i can still run the Porsche 911 GT3 so i laid aside one transmitter & paired them both to my original. besides, wifey is more into numbers & helping to handle biz so she’s letting me borrow hers for now… i suppose i should call it borrowing without asking as i have yet to discuss the loan with her – lol. i’ll use the extra radio for in shop rentals or sell it second hand. don’t get it twisted though… i’m not crying, i’m just a guy who really likes to run my models (translation: i like playing with my toys), and it sucks when its all work & no play.
Happy Birthday, Son! PJ, you are now 9 years old, right? lol – the years have flown by so quickly. you are growing so fast & i wish i could be there to see every second of it. i think of you every day & hope that i’m in your thoughts as well. i don’t want to get in too deep here online, but i wanted to dedicate this update to you so that you understand how important you & your future is to me, your father. i’m also very proud to have such an intelligent & well mannered young man, studying daily to be a leader & visionary of the future. while i love giving you praise for your accomplishments, i have to also find a way to help you understand the things you are doing wrong & how to fix them.
Respect Your Elders
your grandma is a really good lady and she has sacrificed a LOT to take good care of you. she’s worked for over 40 years teaching and disciplining children but now she’s retired. she left her job for a well deserved rest but because of her love for YOU & ME, she’s taken on a new job: taking care of YOU. i’m in Thailand as a father & an entrepreneur, slowly building not only for my future, but for you and your brother’s. i can’t be there and you can’t be here so your grandma is taking on the responsibility of insuring that you get the best education at the best schools and you are in a comfortable, safe home, the best of the best. your problem at this point, is that you can’t see what she means to me and you. you have it all, so you don’t know what its like to have nothing and this is the reason sometimes you behave in a way that makes her believe you don’t appreciate her. i don’t wanna be the dad that has to call & yell at you, i wanna be the dad that calls and we have fun catching up on what’s been going on in your life. i know my mom can be a little hard to handle… she knows this. everything you go thru with her, i’ve been there. i know how you feel but understand that your years as a child are short in comparison to the many years you have ahead of you as an adult. you are intelligent, but she has experience AND intelligence. if i had listened to her more as a child, i’d have advanced so much further in my life than i have now… appreciate what she is in your life son! if you feel like you wanna catch an attitude or she’s getting on your nerves, stop by and read this again: for now, listen to your grandma, do what she says and in a few years, you can do whatever you want and once you reach that point, you WILL appreciate all the things she has taught you and sacrificed for you. learn to control your emotions, focus on what’s important and let go of the things that are not. if you can do something about a problem, then do it… if you can’t, let it go and move on. just be sure all your decisions are positive and do your best to find resolutions that make your dad & granny proud! enjoy your day, as it is just a day, be grateful for the next, and every day you’re blessed with life, health & love.
dNano Lamborghini Murcielago Upgrade
now, to the upgrades! since you’ve been in a bit of trouble the past few days and have been showin’ out with granny, i gotta hold on to your gift. i’ll send it, but your uncle will decide when’s the best time for your to have it after a VERY long period of good behavior & approval from me. note that this gift is not only special because its from me, but its a collector’s item. it can’t be purchased at any retail outlet in the US and its the smallest racing car on the planet. this is NOT a toy! yes, you can play with it but in order to appreciate what you are getting, you have to understand the technology that went into creating it. be sure you read the entire owner’s manual before operating it and only run it on a track designed for mini-rc models. well, you can play around a bit on the hardwood at mom’s house, but… make sure the dogs are locked up! i’m going to upgrade your car as an additional gift with Ball Bearings, a Carbon Rear Suspension Plate & Aluminum Rear Wheel Hubs. you should read extensively on these parts and what effect upgrading them has on your car. i know you’re competitive so racing may be something you’re interested in. if you want to race, that just takes desire. if you want to WIN, then you have to combine your desire with knowledge, experience and practice. all upgrades have already been covered on this blog, so i won’t go into step-by-step details. have fun, and once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Shop, Track & Inventory Update
we’ve spent a few days wrapping up planning and initiation of the interior design while waiting for the construction workers to complete the installation of tile flooring on the showroom. Boonlak, our intereior designer, came by to wrap up the contract & deliver design concepts. his work looks good on paper and we’re hoping his work reflects the design concept. construction will begin on the 15th, the official move-in date on the lease. at home, the track is under slow but steady construction. we planned to take our time on this one as its the track that everyone will see upon entering the showroom. we ordered additional material for the track that we plan to build on the 2nd floor. the main track is black with green walls, the 2nd track is red with white walls. most of our time on the tracks is spent painting and applying the walls with various types of glue. dNano inventory is a bit scarce at the moment so we’ve decided to explore the possibility of stocking Mini-Z. i did express this idea with Charlie and though he’s not really for it, i feel its important to be prepared in case issues arise with our primary product, dNano. i’m really interested in providing a resource for parts and supplies for many hobby grade r/c products while focusing on miniatures, primarily Kyosho dNano & Mini-Z models. attempts at contacting a Kyosho distributor have been unsuccessful so we’ll see where that goes. actually stocking Mini-Z isn’t even calculated into the budget yet but in this business, its an avenue that must be researched. i’ll keep you posted with any major moves on that front. my birthday is tomorrow, February 14th… guess what i’ll be doing? back on the grind baby! PRC dNano Race 2, Season 1
on thursday, we visited the Pattaya RC Powerboat park for the 2nd dNano race of the year. the number of participants increased with top world drivers Meen Vejrak & Charlie Phutiyotin bringing their dNano’s to compete in the field of over 10 drivers. i was unable to race cuz my rear tires on both cars have been depleted. most others are still running on their original set but i’ve summized that is because while running on carpet risks fibers getting into the cars working parts, it saves tires. running on rubber will eat dNano tires as if they were full size tires running on asphalt which is definitely a problem while we’re in a supply shortage. Joom‘s Porsche still has a bit of tread left but i’m just getting to the diff upgrade today so i figured it would be best to skip this meet. Meen ended up as the winner of this match which was sort of expected since he’s the only driver running with a gyro and cuz he’s arguably the best R/C driver in Thailand. i’ve got some video but we left before the real action so i’ll edit it into another update. it includes some footage of Ms. Nanotrax (Joom) so you won’t want to miss that!
Moving Forward
last night, we picked up a gift & visited PRC for a birthday party. while there, i had a chance to speak with Charlie who informed me that our site work has helped to increase his workload which is good and bad i guess… he didn’t seem too upset about it – lol. unfortunately, he told me that our dNano Online Sales have to be limited to Thailand only. unless you’re in this country, we can’t sell you a dNano model, parts or accessories. in time, we may be given extended rights but at the moment, Kyosho apparently has a plan for dNano and it doesn’t include extensive online marketing. after getting that news, i discussed the shop opening & he was already aware of our supply issues. i also talked him about possibly stocking Mini-Z but he advised against that and invited me to visit Hong Kong where we could directly address our inventory problem. we definitely don’t have enough parts, models, accessories and supplies to open the shop at the moment even though we’re less than 3 weeks away from our planned opening time. we’re working on getting the interior designer in this week for showroom layout construction & filing for the necessary permits that are required for music, beer & exterior signs. official move-in date is around the 15th but we should get in and start on the new track construction a couple days before then.
Track Plans & Upgrade
i’ve got the final sketch completed for the showroom track. we have about 9mx6m of space to work with so we’ll probably make the track 8mx4m. it’ll be wide enough to comfortably race up to 9 cars at once and with the new design, we’ll be able to easily develop and implement new course layouts. as i’ve said before, we’ll spend a lot of time on decorations with the hope of making the track feel as if its “real world” racing. i would get into specifics about upgrading my wife’s dNano Porsche 911 GT3 but, i can’t do much testing without a good set of tires. i’m putting in a Ball Differential only. when i finally get new supplies, i’ll put on white wheels & probably make this the first car to receive a gyro and motor upgrade. don’t forget to post comments, good or bad, thai or english… Joom will be adding the Thai versions of my posts over the next couple of days. see ya!
i’ve cataloged available parts in stock for the dNano and you’ll find detailed pics with prices (in Thai baht) already added to most of the items. any interest in buying items listed requires an email at the moment so if the price isn’t clearly visible, inquire when contacting us. parts are extremely limited and as a matter of fact, some of these parts i really want to keep for myself – lol. if no one contacts me then i’ll keep the good stuff but i’ll be fair, post everything & open up the opportunity for customers first.
